U-Battery contributes to Canada’s SMR Action Plan

21 December 2020

U-Battery is proud to announce that its industry partner chapter has been included in Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) SMR Action Plan, outlining the efforts and commitments that U-Battery has made to support the development and deployment of SMRs in Canada.

The SMR Action Plan outlines the progress made by all levels of government, industry, Indigenous groups, utilities and civil society in Canada to support SMRs, and strengthens the federal government’s commitment to providing increased access to resources and regulatory tools that will allow for the development, construction and deployment of SMRs across the country.

“This is an exciting time for U-Battery and the Canadian nuclear sector as there is now a clear and tangible path forward for SMRs in Canada. With the Canadian government providing access to new supportive funding and regulatory tools, I’m confident that the practical rollout of SMRs will play a key role in shaping Canada’s clean energy future,” said Steve Threlfall, General Manager at U-Battery.

U-Battery is poised to play a key part in Canada’s clean energy transformation, particularly in northern and remote regions that rely on diesel for energy generation. U-Battery Canada is confident that its advanced SMR will deliver significant environmental, economic and social benefits across the country while enhancing Canada’s status as an innovation hub and nuclear energy powerhouse.
